What is your best tip for a micro-stakes Multi-Table Tournament (MTT) player to progress to the higher buy-in tournaments? @sainter1966
You should only move up in stakes when you’ve profited comfortably in the games you’ve been playing. Set yourself target profit figures over X number of tournaments played and if you reach your goal, you can move up stakes.
How did you come up with the name MONSTERDONG and what does it mean? @steviejones79
Whilst travelling through Vietnam I took a fond interest in the local currency. Just around that time I started to develop my liking for poker. I felt as though “Monster Dong” was an ideal nickname as it means “Big Money” in Vietnamese.
Name a dream team of professional players for a final table in which you’re a part of, and who’s on your left? @HoughPoker
Ami barer would be on my left so he can min three-bet me every hand, Daniel Neilson, Liam O’Rourke, Tom Grigg, Phil Ivey, Toothpick Tony, Humberto Brenes, and Daniel Negreanu.
How do you deal with the need to have more patience in live poker compared with online? @Juli_balbi
I actually have this problem a lot during live tournaments, something I’m always trying to be conscious of. I generally listen to music and zone out when I feel I’m about to do something stupid….which is not ideal because you miss out on a lot of useful information other players are giving off.
I walk around to stretch and to talk to friends when I’m not in hands also.
One single piece of advice for aspiring players? @stephentrott
Keep an open mind, try and think of every possible option before making any decisions, but stay true to your intuition.
Would you rather fight 1 duck sized horse or 3 horse sized ducks? @MattyNeedham91
One duck sized horse….I would just keep kicking it….or try and ride it and squash it.
What’s your most embarrassing poker moment?
I can’t think of an embarrassing poker moment that would be entertaining.
This was not embarrassing for me, but while on the final table of a World Series of Poker Australia event I won a big pot, and my dad was in the stands and got so excited that he fell backwards off his chair, making heaps of noise and causing massive scene. He wasn’t able to get himself up from being buried in the chair.
I was having outbursts of laughter for the next hour even in the middle of playing pots. ESPN caught the whole thing, I tried to get the footage for one of his future birthdays but could never get it. The memory is enough.
Who is the best poker player in the world right now?
Some guy? It is impossible to tell. Dan Smith’s tournament record is beyond a joke now, though.
Just do whatever makes you happy, poker is just a small part of my life and should never be anyone’s everything, so you have to just keep that in perspective.
If it’s to purely motivate you, to play again if there is a big tournament on, I would recommend something relaxing like getting a massage before or after playing sports.
