Dario “Ryu” Alioto

A native of Palermo, Italy, Dario’s no stranger to competition. For years, he successfully represented Italy at the national level in both Judo and freestyle wrestling. Then he was introduced to Texas Hold ‘em in January of 2005. Dario was “extremely excited” by this new challenge and immediately dedicated himself to becoming a winning player in the shortest possible time. True to form, he made it happen.

He struggled at first, but after a period of intense study and practice at the lowest levels, Dario rapidly moved up through the ranks. Within seven months of his first exposure to poker, he’d become a fearsome player and was regularly winning large tournaments. It was then that he made his way into the world of live tournament play by winning a seat at the EPT Main Event in an online tournament.

Dario’s first live tournament, the EPT €4K No-Limit Hold ‘em event in Barcelona, established him as a live competitor. He made the final table and walked away with €52K. From that point on, Dario consistently gave strong performances, making it to the money online as well as in live European tournaments.

In the summer of 2007, Dario proved his mettle as a professional at the WSOP. Not only did he cash in two events, he made the final table in the $1.5K PLO Hi/Lo Split 8 or Better. In total, he earned more than $55K.

Back on European soil, he was quick to get back in the action. After taking first place in a PLO tournament in his native Italy, he was off to London for the WSOPE £5k PLO event. Yet again, Dario proved to be the strongest competitor in the field, taking first place and over £234K for his victory.

Dario has demonstrated talent and tenacity online and in live tournaments, and doesn’t show any sign of letting up.
