Friend of Full Tilt, Eunjong Byun, is a South Korean former professional gamer who retired to play poker full time.
Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Eunjong’s pro gaming career started in 2002 when he was recruited by the STX Soul Team to play Starcraft, a science fiction strategy game. In 2005, he moved to the Samsung Khan E-sports Team, bringing the team to victory at the 2007 Starcraft Pro League Season Championship. In total, Eunjong won three major Starcraft tournaments and took home over $300,000 in winnings before retiring from pro gaming in 2008.
Eunjong was introduced to poker in 2006, playing with friends in local poker rooms. He switched to online poker, starting out on $0.50/$1 tables and grinding his way through the levels. Eunjong studied online educational sites and practiced with his poker friends, building a strong bankroll within two years and turning pro in 2008.
Preferring to play No-Limit Hold ‘em 6-Max ring games, Eunjong focuses his attention on online poker but plans to venture into the live tournament scene in the near future.
Eunjong names Team Full Tilt’s Phil Ivey as one of his poker heroes: “his aggressive style is something that I always wanted to resemble. I often observe his high stakes games at Full Tilt Poker.”
Outside of poker, Eunjong is a keen boxer, practicing up to four times a week.
