Leandro

Leandro Pimentel, otherwise known as “Brasa” or “Hot Coal”, is one of Brazil’s top poker players and is celebrated for being the first Brazilian to reach a WSOP final table.

Having played poker between classes in his college days, Leandro took up the game seriously in 2003 and quit his day job to become a poker professional two years later. He became 2005 Sao Paulo Poker Champion by winning the Circuit Paulista and graduated to becoming the Brazilian Poker Champion in 2006 in the Brazilian Series of Poker.

Leandro is well known among the closely knit group of professional Brazilian players and achieved Brazilian poker history with his 4th place finish in Event 49 at the World Series of Poker in 2007. In pocketing $189,249, he became the first Brazilian at a WSOP final table. He followed that up in 2008 with two other cashes, including the Latin American Poker Tour in Uruguay in August 2008.

Not just a poker player, Leandro has worked as a poker TV commentator for Poker After Dark on BandSports and Tower Torneos on FX Brasil. He’s also the co-author of “Learning to Play Poker”, the first Portuguese-language poker instruction book.

Brought up in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia, Leandro moved to Sao Paulo when he was 21. Since his successes as a poker pro, he enjoys the beach life of Balneario Camboriu on Brazil’s beautiful south shore.

Online, he plays mainly No-Limit Hold ‘em, Pot-Limit Omaha and Horse Multi-Table Tournaments. He also enjoys playing PLO ring games. Join “Brasa” online at Full Tilt Poker.
