Gavin Smith

Gavin has been playing poker since 1994, when he discovered the roving charity casinos in the Toronto area. He turned pro in 1998. That year, Gavin played in his first poker tournaments during the World Poker Finals at Foxwoods and he made two final tables.

His first major tournament win came in the 1999 World Poker Finals, when Gavin won a No-Limit Hold 'em tournament. The next year at Foxwoods, he won a 7-Card Stud Hi/Lo 8 or Better tournament. Since then, he's made a dozen more final tables.

Without question, 2005 was his best year. At the Mirage Poker Showdown, Gavin won two tournaments, taking home more than $155,000 in the $2,000 No-Limit Hold 'em event and more than $1.1 Million in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em World Poker Tour event.

In the same year, Gavin cashed in four Ultimate Poker Challenge tournaments and four World Series of Poker tournaments, as well as finishing third at the Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship, where he collected more than $327,000.

He continued his run the following year with some huge results. Chief among them were a second place finish in the WSOP Circuit Harrah’s New Orleans and the top spot in the World Pro-Am Challenge in Las Vegas, which netted him a combined total of almost $800,000. In May 2006, Gavin was named WPT "Player of the Year."

In 2008, Gavin finished second in the WPT North American Poker Championships in Ontario, taking home over $500,000. Two years later, he took the top prize in the $2,500 buy-in event at the Fallsview Classic, winning $188,000. This payday brought his total career earnings to over $5 million.

When he's not playing poker, he likes to play golf, rollerblade, and play pool with his friends.
