Markus Golser was a poker player long before a casino finally opened in his native Salzburg, Austria. He rapidly went from casual play to making a respectable income. After a couple of years of consistent success, he made the decision to switch a career in sales for a career in poker. Since that time, he hasn’t looked back.
After going pro, Markus played primarily in Austria, focusing on ring games and occasionally playing in tournaments. Then in May of ’99, Markus took his career to the next level, winning €21K for his victory in the No-Limit Hold ‘em event in the Torneo di Poker in Slovenia. Even better than the money, the prize included a trip to Vegas, where he played in the 2000 WSOP.
Once there, Markus worked his way through a tough field to take third place – and $48K – in the $2.5K Pot-Limit Omaha event. During this trip to Vegas, he also scored big playing ring games. By the end of his first trip to Las Vegas, he had made over $90K.
While he’s still primarily a ring game player, Markus continues to excel in tournament play. He’s made more than 30 final tables on the European tournament circuit, including three EPT cash finishes and a solid performance at the 2004 WPT in France. He went deep and walked away with well over $30K in the €10K No-Limit Hold ‘em event at the Grand Prix de Paris. Most recently, he took fifth place in the €4.7K No-Limit Hold ‘em event at the EPT in Prague, taking an impressive $222K.
