Huseyin Yilmaz plays online at Full Tilt Poker
Before taking up poker full time, Huseyin studied industrial engineering in his home town of Istanbul. He started out playing Freerolls and micro stakes online, building his bankroll until he was ready to hit the live tournament scene in 2006.
In 2007, he took down the St. Petersburg Main Event in Russia for $75K, and followed that up by winning the £1,000 Pot Limit Omaha event at the European Poker Championships in London to take home $70K. He returned to London a month later to reach two final tables at the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour – Grand Final.
A year later he was back in London once again to notch a 19th place finish at the European Poker Championships Main Event to add almost $30K to his earnings.
One of Huseyin’s favorite poker destinations is the Merit Casino in Kyrenia, Cyprus. In November 2009, he won the $150K No Limit Hold ‘em tournament for a $36,000 first prize. He returned for the 2011 Merit Poker Winterfest, winning both the $1K No Limit Hold ‘em Bounty event and the $400 No Limit Hold ‘em tournament, for a combined payday of over $40K.
Huseyin recommends that beginners take the time to read about poker to gain a better understanding of the game, particularly before moving up in stakes. He believes the most important skills for players to acquire are courage and an ability to keep their emotions under control.
Away from the tables, Huseyin enjoys skiing, traveling and watching sports.
