A native of Paris, Guillaume first discovered poker in 2002 while enrolled in university as an engineering student. He began playing regularly in the following years, starting out with freeroll tournaments and eventually working his way up to high-stakes No Limit Hold ‘em cash games. Guillaume’s success at the tables enabled him to fully fund his graduate studies and, shortly after graduating, he decided to become a professional poker player.
Guillaume focuses equally on high-stakes online cash games and live tournaments. He has achieved a number of impressive tournament results since turning professional, including a final table appearance at the WPT Marrakech $5K Main Event in November 2010, finishing fifth for more than $75K. He also has numerous other WPT, WSOP and EPT cashes to his credit.
Guillaume singles out Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan and Phil Ivey as the players who have most influenced his game. Dwan’s controlled style of play made him realize the need to perfect his bet timings and sizings and “analyze those of other players”. He uses Ivey as inspiration to improve his non-technical “outside the table” skills, such as the ability to control his emotions and better deal with a run of poor luck.
Because he believes that the average poker player has become increasingly technically proficient, Guillaume advises players become as “emotionally strong” as possible in order to gain an edge over the competition. He also suggests that new players take up poker primarily out of love for the game, rather than the desire to become famous or overnight millionaires.
