James Akenhead plays online at Full Tilt Poker.

James got into poker just a few years ago in his native London while playing on the professional pool circuit. He developed an immediate interest and dedicated himself to learning the game, playing as often as possible and reading every poker book that he could get his hands on.
James played regularly in and around London, continuing to work on his game with the “Hit Squad”, a group of friends dedicated to developing as professional poker players. It was during this time that he began posting solid tournament results, making regular final table appearances. While this steadily growing list of accomplishments was impressive, 2008 would see him make his first command performance as a pro.
James made his first WSOP cash finish in 2008 at the $1.5K No-Limit Hold ‘em event. From a starting field of almost 4,000 competitors, he played his way to a 2nd place finish, claiming over $520K.
In 2009, James worked his way through an even bigger and more competitive field to earn his place amongst the November Nine at the 2009 WSOP Main Event final table. Arriving at the table as the short stack, James played admirably before finishing in 9th place to take home over $1.2 million.
Self-described as obsessive when it comes to winning, James’ singular goal is to become the best poker player possible. To see him in action, look for James online at Full Tilt Poker.
