Jean Paul Pasqualini plays online at Full Tilt Poker

Jean Paul Pasqualini

Having grown up in Corsica, Jean Paul began playing poker as a student in the 1970s. At the time he exclusively played Draw Poker, considering himself a poker professional when the French poker community was in its infancy.

Although he has established himself as one of France’s best poker players over the last few decades, he has only come to the world’s attention since going deep in high-profile tournaments in recent years.

Jean Paul began playing No Limit Hold ‘em after stumbling across TV coverage of the World Poker Tour late one night in 2006. After being a self-confessed “No Limit Hold ‘em fish” for the first three months, he set about learning the game from scratch.

Playing predominantly ring games, the Corsican’s results soon improved. His years of poker experience were of particular significance in the live environment where he benefited from picking up on other players’ tells.

Jean Paul began featuring in live tournaments around France and Spain, and was rewarded when he won the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event in August 2009. He took on a high-class international field in the €7,750 buy-in tournament to pocket €1 million for the first prize.

Later the same year, Jean Paul made two spectacular runs within the space of a month to further cement his reputation as an opponent to be feared. First up, he won a £1,500 No-Limit Hold ‘em side event at the EPT London for £66K ($106K), before finishing second in the Barriere Poker Tour – Grand Final in Enghien, earning him another €85K ($128K).

In 2010, Jean Paul entered his first WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas, finishing an impressive 93rd place for $67K. He followed this up with a final table appearance at the WPT Amneville Main Event in November.

A keen family man, Jean Paul stresses the importance of playing within your limits and exercising good bankroll management. He also recommends getting inside your opponent’s head in order to make the best decisions at the table.
