Jens Voertmann has always been passionate about card games. But it wasn’t until 2003 that he got into poker. He read a couple of books and began to hone his skills at a casino in his native town of Dortmund, Germany. As his game developed, so did his bankroll. After experiencing considerable success, Jens made the decision to leave a successful career as a financing specialist to pursue poker full time in 2005.
Initially, Jens was more into ring games than tournaments. But after taking first place in the Bregenz open, he made the decision to take tournament play much more seriously. He entered the Main Event of the 2005 WSOP and cashed for better than $33K. Back on European soil less than a month later, Jens took first place – and €23K – at the Bodensee Poker Championship in Austria. He continued to make tournament appearances and scored big again in 2007 at the EPT €5K Main Event in Dortmund. He worked his way through a starting field of almost 500 entrants to finish in 17th place, taking home well over €12K.
The 2008 WSOP was the stage for Jens’ greatest performance to date, the $3K HORSE event. Facing a starting field of 414 competitors, Jens worked his way to a pro-heavy final table, including Team Full Tilt’s Jennifer Harman and Full Tilt Poker pro Steve Zolotow. In the end, his skill and effort paid off in the form of Jens’ first bracelet and $298K.
With recent performances like this, we’re likely to see a lot more from Jens as he plays his way through upcoming tournaments. In the meantime, look for him playing online at Full Tilt Poker.
