Johan Storakers

Swedish player Johan Storakers is based in Stockholm, where he was born and raised. He was introduced to poker by a friend who taught him how to play Seven-Card Stud. While working various jobs, Johan joined a private members club where he played live low-stakes ring games and tournaments. He was mentored by well-known Swedish poker player Gunnar Ostling, focusing his attention on Pot-Limit and No-Limit Hold ‘em, as well as Pot-Limit Omaha. He gradually built his bankroll and decided to play poker full time in 1997.

Johan’s first notable tournament success came in 2002 when he placed 4th in the World Series of poker $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold 'em event for $28K. Later that year he also placed 2nd in the €3,000 No-Limit Hold ‘em Master Classics of Poker main event in Amsterdam for more than $116K. In 2003, Johan won two events back to back at the MCOP including the €3,000 No-Limit Hold ‘em Main Event for over $280K, and also won the €1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Helsinki Freezeout. In 2005, he placed 3rd in the Ultimate Poker Classic $5,000 Championship Event and walked away with $300K. The following year he won the Pokermiljonen No-Limit Hold 'em Final for over $150K, and in 2007 he won the Swedish Open Poker Championships SKr 40,000 No-Limit Hold 'em Main Event in Stockholm for almost $200K.
