José Luis Velador

Originally born in Jalisco, Mexico, José Luis Velador currently resides in Southern California. Since becoming a professional poker player in 1997, he’s steadily improved his game and is now recognized as a player to watch out for on the tournament circuit.

Luis’s first big tournament score came at the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event, where he cashed for over $30k in prize money, but it wasn’t until 2008 that he really made his mark as a player. Playing through a starting field of over 2,300 players, Luis took down the $1.5K No-Limit Hold ‘em event at the WSOP, claiming $574,734 and his first bracelet.

The Mexican claimed his second WSOP title in 2010, by emerging victorious in the $2,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em/Omaha. Velador was the last man standing from a field of 482 entrants for the first prize of $260,552 and his second bracelet.

All told, Luis has over $1 million in career tournament earnings.

When he’s not playing tournaments, Luis is mainly a mid-limit ring-game player who favors mixed games. Join him online at Full Tilt Poker.
