Born and raised in Solna, Stockholm, Swedish player Michael Tureniec was introduced to poker in 2003 when a friend taught him the rules of Limit Hold ‘em. Michael had always been interested in games such as Blackjack, and poker quickly became a passion for him. He improved his knowledge of the game by reading as many poker books and forums as possible, and gradually built his bankroll by playing No-Limit Hold ‘em tournaments online. In 2006, he realized he could support himself financially by playing poker and decided to make it a full time career.
Michael got his new career off to a promising start, cashing in his first World Series of Poker appearance at the 2007 Main Event. He made his first major cash one year later at the 2008 European Poker Tour when he placed 2nd in the £5,200 Main Event in London and walked away with over $960K in prize money. Later that year, he won the €1,000 No-Limit Hold 'em event at the Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam for more than $200K. Michael started 2009 with promising results, placing 19th in the Aussie Millions AUD $10,000 No-Limit Hold 'em event, which awarded over $35K. To date, Michael has accumulated over $1.2 million in career tournament earnings.
Michael has also established himself as a solid online poker player. He has had several impressive cashes in online tournaments, including a 2nd place finish in a Full Tilt Poker $750,000 Guarantee tournament for more than $80K. Michael also enjoys playing ring games online, preferring the faster pace they offer in comparison to tournaments.
When he’s not at the tables or studying his game, Michael enjoys travelling with friends, watching movies and going to parties.
