Full Tilt Poker's Gavin Smith takes 2nd place in the WPT North American Championship

Dublin, Ireland

Smith wins over $532K for his performance and now has more than $4.5 million in career tournament earnings

Full Tilt Poker pro Gavin Smith continued his run of success in World Poker Tour events with a 2nd place finish in the WPT North American Championship.   He just missed out on a second WPT bracelet, having won the first in the 2005 Mirage Poker Showdown Main Event.

A field of 454 players entered this championship event, which took place over six days in Ontario, Canada. Smith, a native Canadian, was in 2nd place heading into the final table and managed to survive to the final two. He entered heads-up play a 3:1 underdog against his opponent, but wouldn’t go down without a fight. Heads-up play lasted nearly 50 hands, when Smith finally got all his chips in the middle with pocket 5s versus AK. The flop and turned both looked good for Smith, but he was eliminated when an Ace fell on the river.

With this 2nd place finish, Gavin earned over $532,000 and now has over $4.5 million in lifetime tournament winnings.
