Team Full Tilt’s Erik Seidel Takes Second in the Aussie Millions Main Event
Dublin, Ireland
Dublin, Ireland (January 22, 2008) – Team Full Tilt's Erik Seidel added another impressive finish to his remarkable tournament record this week after taking second place at the prestigious Aussie Millions Main Event.
After working his way through a record 780-person field, Seidel came to the six-person final table with a middle-sized chip stack and the most tournament experience of any other player remaining in the field. True to his style, he played patient, but aggressive poker throughout the day, avoiding major confrontations and letting chip leader Alexander Kostritsyn eliminate the competition.
Entering heads-up play, the young Russian held less than a 2-1 chip lead over eight-time WSOP bracelet winner Seidel. The two men battled for nearly two hours before Kostritsyn’s pair of Jacks bested Seidel’s Ace-Queen. Seidel’s performance earned him AU$1 million and even more respect from his peers, including fellow Team Full Tilt member Howard Lederer, who recently won the Aussie Millions $100K buy-in event.
"With eight WSOP titles, one would think Erik Seidel had nothing left to prove," said Lederer. "But a second place finish in the most prestigious event outside of the U.S. will certainly add to one of poker's all-time great resumes."
