A day before the #2 event of the WSOP, the first tournament for normal players because the #1 event is the casino employees tournament, Full Tilt Poker had a cover shoot for CardPlayer. This, as it would turn out, would be the most challenging task set before for us in some time. I have also set a quota of 75 commas for this entry.

John Juanda went into today’s final table with $147,000 in chips. With blinds of $8,000 and $16,000, there wasn’t a lot of room for him to play. He busted in eighth place after taking pocket Queens against Can Kim Hua’s Ace-King. John won $37,606.

I cashed in the first event of the series for a small profit, and I’m pretty happy about that. I was 0 for 18 in last year’s WSOP, so any sort of win was good for my confidence.

In 2004, John D’Agostino made it to the final three of the $10,000 buy-in event at Turning Stone casino, where he faced off against John Juanda and Phil Ivey. D’Agostino said after the event that he hoped to go heads up with Ivey because he found Juanda so tough to play. Why does D’Agostino find Juanda so difficut to play against?

Rafe Furst goes into today’s final table of the $1,500 pot-limit hold ‘em event in third chip position. Rafe, a member of the Tiltboys, has 222,000 in chips. The blinds will start at $8,000 and $16,000. Furst is an experienced player, but this is his first WSOP Final Table. I spoke to him before the start of today’s event.

In the next six weeks I’m planning on playing every day, which hopefully doesn’t mean every event because I hope to make a couple Day Twos and some Day Threes. If I do that I’m obviously going to miss the next day’s event. Yesterday I made Day Two of the pot-limit hold’em tournament, the second event of the Series. But I was so short-stacked I decided to play in the $1,500 Limit Hold’em event as well, and I went broke in two hours in that event.

I had a chance to catch up with Rafe Furst before he sat down to play the second day of the $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold’em event. He seemed calm and cool and ready to play.

I’m going to be here all six weeks, and I’m going to play in most of the events. I’m feeling pretty good. I feel like I’m playing really well. I haven’t been making any significant mistakes. I’m feeling motivated, and I’m excited. I feel like I’ve gotten my passion back for the game after playing all these years. For a while there it became a little too much of a routine.
