In 2004, John D’Agostino made it to the final three of the $10,000 buy-in event at Turning Stone casino, where he faced off against John Juanda and Phil Ivey. D’Agostino said after the event that he hoped to go heads up with Ivey because he found Juanda so tough to play. Why does D’Agostino find Juanda so difficut to play against?
D’Agostino:
“He makes you so uncomfortable at the table. He’s got the most intimidating stare in poker. And he seems to have incredible reads on people. Any time I get out of line he reraises me. It could just be bad timing for me and he really has hands all the time, but I don’t think so. And every time I have something, he just folds. It seems impossible that this many hands come up and he plays them all perfectly.
“I play a lot with him online in side games and I’d much rather play him online. In person, I think he picks up reads on people better than anyone.”
