How Could He Call?!
I’d been playing well. My stack was about average and I’d been playing patiently. I didn’t see any cards for a few orbits and had to fold once to a re-raise. Then I got moved to a new table and I felt it was time to change gears. I needed to pick up some chips.
I won a nice pot my first hand at the new table, moving in on the flop and forcing my opponent to fold. The next hand I raised again, this time I was under the gun; I held 6h-4h. A player in middle position re-raised to 20k, giving me great odds to call. I didn’t think my opponent had much of a hand, so when I hit middle pair on a flop of J-6-2 I moved in for more than 40k.
This guy thought for a while and then called. He turned over A-Q. No pair. Just Ace high.
The turn was a Queen and I was crippled.
Frankly, I have no idea what this guy was thinking. If my pair held up, I’d have 150k and would have been among the chip leaders.
But after that loss, it was just a matter of time.
Oh, well. My quest for a bracelet continues.
