John Juanda enters the second day of the $1,500 pot-limit hold ‘em event in familiar position – near the top of the leader board. He’s third in chips, with a stack of 53,000.

What makes John such a great player? I asked some of his Full Tilt peers. Here’s what they had to say.

Andy Bloch

John’s an all-around great player. He studies his opponents and picks up on their tendencies and takes advantage of them. He can re-raise you and show down seven-deuce or he can have two aces. He’s very unpredictable but plays a very controlled game.

Allen Cunningham

John knows the game really. He’s always on his “A” game, and that leads to a lot of consistency… When he’s at the table I try to avoid him if I can. Depending on how aggressive he’s being, I may have to clash with him eventually.

Rafe Furst (In twentieth chips position in the same tournament)

I have the utmost respect for John… I can never figure out where he’s at. There are a lot of really tough pros who mix up their games well, but they’re easier to read. John is just impenetrable to me. With chips, he’s really tough.

[Note: shortly after this interview Rafe found his seat at the redrawn tables. John Juanda was two seats to his left. Rafe and John remained at the same table for most of the day.]
