Last night, I started accumulating chips soon after we got into the money in the $50,000 HORSE event. I actually knocked out the bubble boy with a pair of deuces. He tried to raise my bring-in with A-K-J, and he didn’t have enough chips to get me off of it, and he ended up not making a pair so my deuces won. After that, I had a really good hold’em round where I picked up some big pairs that held up, and I also managed to steal a bunch of pots when I didn’t have a hand. I lost almost no hold’em pots. That’s what got me a lot of my chips. That got me from like $300,000 to $900,000.
I got about four or five hours sleep today. I feel pretty good. I actually wanted to keep playing. I wouldn’t have minded if we had kept playing and played HORSE all the way through. Almost everyone at the table wanted to keep it HORSE. T.J. was the only one I talked to personally who said that it should be no-limit.
Next time I’d like to see us have more HORSE or perhaps at the final table a full round of HORSE and then switch to no-limit. That way, HORSE is still very important. I like HORSE. I think it’s a lot more fun than no-limit hold’em. I like changing the games up every forty minutes. It’s just such a refreshing poker tournament. I get tired of playing the same thing every day.
Right now it feels like just another poker tournament. Of course, everyone is going to be trying their hardest to win, Chip Reese especially because he’s never won the main event. He really wants to win this to show everyone he is the best all-around poker player in the world.
I don’t think it will hit me until this is all over how important this event is. I hope I’m going to win it, but with this field I’m not predicting anything. All I know is I don’t think I’m going to finish ninth.
