One Bracelet For Each Arm

Posted by Storms Reback

Scott Fischman’s record has been broken. In 2004 Fischman became the youngest player in World Series history to win two gold bracelets. He was 23 at the time. Early this morning Eric “E-Fro” Froelich erased Fischman’s name from the record books and inserted his own by winning the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha with Re-Buys event, his second bracelet in the last two years. He only turned 22 five months ago. At this rate he’ll smash the record for most bracelets won in a career. You listening, Phil Hellmuth? Those are E-Fro’s footsteps you hear coming.

SR: Where does Pot-Limit Omaha rank on your list of favorite poker games?
EF: Pot-Limit Omaha is my favorite game. I don’t know if it’s my BEST game, but I enjoy it the most, especially during the World Series where basically everything is hold’em.

SR: How many re-buys did you make?
EF: I started with a re-buy. You have to re-buy once in that one.

SR: Did you play in both Pot-Limit Omaha events?
EF: Yeah, I played in the noon one and ended up busting. I played seventeen hours that day. In the first one I lasted a little over two hours. Then I went and got some food before the 4:00 tournament started. It was a long day.

SR: You were pretty short-stacked heading into the final table.
EF: Going into the second day we had eighteen players and I was in the top five or six in chips. My stack just dwindled. I was the short stack when there were fifteen left and I ended up doubling through Chau [Giang] and then winning a few pots, starting to build my stack, getting closer to average. The entire tournament I had a lot of roller coasters, but I was never too high after the first four or five hours. It was a struggle to stay in it.

SR: How about the rivalry between you and Kevin O’Donnell?
EF: [Laughs] No rivalry at all. Kevin s a real great guy. He’s genuine. He’d never played Omaha in his life. I was able to really pick my spots against Kevin well.

SR: How was it playing against a guy like Chau?
EF: Chau is an incredible poker player especially at Pot Limit Omaha. That’s his game. He’s been the master of this game for so long. I’m not really going to outplay him.

SR: How long did heads-up last?
EF: They told me it took twenty-two minutes. [Laughs] My last one took four hours so I just know it wasn’t as long.

SR: You’ve won two bracelets. You’re 22 years old. You think you can win 10 by the time you’re 30, one a year every year?
EF: Don’t discount me winning another one this year.
