Jeffrey Lisandro goes into the today’s play in 9th chip position with 45 players remaining. I had a brief chat with him before he headed off to play.
JG: How was your table lining up yesterday?
JL: It was quite a nice table. A lot of the players were playing unusually aggressive. It wasn’t easy to steal the antes or blinds. Every time I entered a pot someone was calling me down. I forced me to wait for a hand.
I was losing a lot of chips, just getting blinded off. A couple of other times, I raised and other people bet flops that I missed. Suddenly I had, like, 70 percent of my chips. I’d lost 30 percent to the blinds.
Then I had Ace-suited, and I hit the nut flush on the flop. I managed to trick a guy into doubling me up. My opponent only had a pair of tens with an average kicker. I checked to him and he bet. I checked again on the turn, he bet, and I looked back at my cards, trying to make it look like I had a big card of that suit. I said ‘OK, all in,’ and he called.
Amazing. I managed to double up.
It was a hard day, not an easy day.
JG: Are you expecting similar play today?
JL: They play incredibly fast. In past years people haven’t wanted to give up their chips; they wanted to move up in the money. But these players don’t care.
JG: Do you think they don’t understand the situation?
JL: No. It takes the advantage away from the pro.
