This Just In . . .
Allen Cunningham sits with about 180k in chips. He’s in second chip position at his table, but there’s little doubt who the best player at table 135 is. Soon after positioning myself at the table, the player in seat 1 got up, walked over to me, and said, “This just in, Allen Cunningham has X-ray vision.”
“He take a tough pot from you?” I asked.
“No,” the man said, “he’s just totally controlling the table.”
About 20 minutes later, the man who declared Allen had supernatural abilities raised in early position to 5k and Cunningham called from the big blind. On a flop of K-6-6, Cunningham checked, and the man made a bet of 6k. During the action, Allen’s eyes never moved from his opponent. He looked the man up and down as he cut his chips and placed the bet in front of his cards.
The action back to Cunningham, he carefully removed 15.5 from his stack. His opponent quickly folded.
Cunningham isn’t playing many hands, but even when he isn’t involved in the play, his eyes are searching his opponents. He seems more alert and aware than anyone in the room. He seems to be finding perfect opportunities to pick up chips. His tablemates are respectful and happy to avoid confrontations with him.
Cunningham is without question aware of all of this – and a whole lot more.
