Full Tilt qualifier janpo_banon, otherwise known as Jonas Buskas, has spent most of the last few days looking miserable. The photo below (he’s on the left) gives a good representation of his demeanor as he played day two of the tournament.

In all fairness, Jonas had plenty of reasons to feel lousy. He was short stacked and card dead. What’s worse, he had one of the chip leaders, Haralabos Voulgaris, to his left for most of the day yesterday.
But oh what a difference a few cards can make. The Swede won a race with A-Q when his stack had fallen dangerously low, and then went on a rush. By late this afternoon he had accumulated over 500k in chips. He became a player to be reckoned with.
There was a redrawing for seats once 36 players remained. The format of this tournament calls for six-handed from 36 players on till the final table. Jonas drew a seat that has him sharing a table with Joe Hachem and Andrew Black. Given the table’s star power, it was decided that this would be the TV table. Ville was ready for his close-up.

In one of the first hands played, Joe Hachem raised from the cutoff, and Jonas re-raised from the button. Hachem reluctantly called, and then on a Ten-high flop, Hachem checked and Ville moved in, forcing Hachem to fold.
Twenty or so hands later, Jonas limped form under-the-gun. All folded to the small blind, who completed. The big blind then raised to 60k (blinds were 5k and 10k). Jonas called. The flop came A-8-3. The big blind bet 80k and Jonas called again. The turn paired the Ace, and the blind checked. Jonas moved in and the blind showed Jacks, saying that he had to be beat.
I was led to believe by the television production crew that Jonas was on a stone bluff.
He looked very proud of himself while stacking the chips. It nice to see that this friendly young Swede’s mood has improved. Here’s hoping his spirits stay high for some time to come.
