#016 – FTOPS #3 Update C – I DIDN’T Jinx Phil Gordon

Posted by Michael Craig

It’s the first break in the third FTOPS event, $300 + $22 No-Limit Texas Hold ‘Em. In my previous two entries, I explained how both Erick Lindgren and Mike Matusow busted. Contrary to what some people think, I have the same access to this information as everybody else watching. (It would be unfair if I had more because I’m playing the tournament, and a simple look at how I called off a quarter of my stack with A-rag against a flush will demonstrate that, whatever it is I’m looking at, it ain’t the other guy’s cards.)

Phil GordonI simply looked at their tables and they busted soon after I arrived.

I decided to check out Phil Gordon’s table. Phil has some chips (5,723) and is writing at least as much as I am about the tournament. The rail is asking him to conduct a seminar on various aspects of No-Limit Hold ‘Em play and Phil is obliging.

THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY!

I encourage you to take advantage. Phil is a great teacher and strategist about the game and you automatically improve just by listening to him. This is your chance.

The numbers: 2,755 starters, $826,500 in prize money. Bottom money (405th) gets $413.25. First place, which will take another 5-6 hours of your time, pays $151,249.50. There were 18 pros in the field. 5 have busted – Mikey, E-Dog, David Chiu (who moneyed yesterday), Allen Cunningham, and Steve Z (who moneyed in FTOPS 1). Average is 3,909. There are 2,114 left, including yours truly. I have 3,305, after picking up 2,000 chips early.
