It’s killing me that I’m not playing in this one. The number of hundred-dollar rebuys I could have blown is unimaginable. At least I know I could have bought my way to the first break, something my skill was unable to achieve for me yesterday. With or without me, the FTOPS goes on, and today it’s Pot Limit Omaha with rebuys, hosted by Eric Froelich.

Last night’s event #1 ended at 6 AM, after more than nine hours of action. I didn’t realize, playing in the Mountain or Pacific time zones, how late these things went. (Of course, not playing very long myself has also contributed to my ignorance.) get_that took down the big prize, winning first place and almost $95,000. It was a tough night for the Full Tilt pros. Lynette Chan, seemingly short-stacked for hours and hours and hours, finished 57th. Jim McManus. the only other pro in the money, finished 158th. Likewise, he was short-stacked for a long time. Just before he went out, he got all-in with AK against AT. His opponent hit a ten on the flop but Jim got a king on the turn. Finally, he got it in with AQ against JJ and 55. Unfortunately, his triple-up didn’t come in and the player with JJ took the huge pot.

Tonight’s Pot Limit Omaha with rebuys, of course, has a smaller field, but clearly not a less enthusiastic one. Tonight’s event had a lower guarantee, $150,000, because of the feeling that PLO was more a specialist’s game and the masses might not be sufficiently interested. They had 746 starters, and the rebuys were FLYING. IT took just over a half hour for the tournament to pass the guarantee, which of course doesn’t include the add-on bucks.

The total prize pool ended up at over $220,000. First place will pay in excess of $53,000. Bottom-dollar money, 72nd place, pays around $500. There were 746 entries and 1,128 rebuys. At the break, there were 497 left. 340 players added on.

Among those NOT adding on were pros Karina Jett (who busted and did not rebuy during the first hour) and Mike Matusow, 11th among the 11 Full Tilt pros still in the field with 1,020. I suspect Mike may not be at his computer. The average stack is 7,000. Among the pros on shorter stacks are Ross Boatman, Chip Jett, and Jim McManus. Jim moneyed last night and made a World Series final table in Pot Limit Omaha. Paul Wolfe and Berry Johnston exited the first break with average stacks.

Among the leaders are Lee Watkinson, 14th with over 17,000; Aaron Bartley, 13th with a similar amount; Andy Bloch in 20th with nearly 20,000; and Eric Froelich, 12th, with 23,000. Eric is the host pro of this event so he apparently has shaken off the Host Curse. That’s good news for Huckleberry Seed, who hosts tomorrow’s event and has a great record of getting deep into the money.

Tmay420 is at the top of the leaderboard with an amazing 44,506 chips, 13,000 more than the next player. I could just a little of his table but it’s one wild place. He’s mixing it up in big pots and in chat with Crazy Marco, who entered the break with 27,000. These two are top online tournament players and there are many familiar names on page one of the leaderboard, including Imper1um, KudelyKQ, lordhutty, and GetPWN3D.

I may try to play later tonight and/or update this later, but I’m off to my Dad’s 70th birthday party. With Mother’s Day and a cross-country flight tomorrow, I may be forced out of action for Huck’s event too. I’ll enjoy spending these special times with my parents, but I’ll truly miss spending these special times with you, my fellow degenerate gamblers. Know I’ll be thinking of you, and keeping my money ready for action.
