#156 - WSOP #6 - 81,400

Posted by Michael Craig

It’s about 10:30 AM. I should probably be sleeping, but who can sleep? I’m in the money at the World Series of Poker! (Good god, did TYPE that, or just think it? I played until 2 AM, ate sushi, then went to bed so I think I can be excused for not knowing for sure.)

This is my first cash at the World Series of Poker and I’m not going to hide that I’m excited about it. I’m pretty wrapped up in playing but I’m also trying to take notes and enjoy the experience.

We started at 1 PM with 2,998 players and there are now just 270. I am currently in 22nd place with 81,400 chips. It was clear during the last two hours that no one at my table wanted to play a hand, not even table chip leader Arnold Spee (who was, thank goodness, to my immediate right). I went from 45,000 to 81,400. I raised two of the last three hands of the night with 9-5o and 7-3o. None of that today, though. Only the nuts for me, especially against the players I told about this blog who might read it before playing me.

I have lots to share about the experience and I promise to give it to you once my tournament is over. We start at 2 PM and play down to the last nine players. If I’m in that group, we start again on Monday.

I’ll try to update you during the dinner break if I’m still in, and I’ll encourage Pokerwire.com to update you on my status.

For now, I’m going to take a shower, see if I can find the payout structure, and talk my friend Ted C and his dad into letting me take them to the Original Pancake House in Henderson. (Stranger things have happened. Ted watched me at the end of the night and we went for sushi at 3 AM at Lahaina Grill on Hualapai. It was superb!)
