This is Rule 82 of the World Series of Poker Tournament Rules:
“Cell Phone Rule: A player who wants to use a cellular phone must step away from the table. Any player on the cell phone or texting a messaging [sic] when the dealer delivers the first card from the deck will have a dead hand. No cell phones can be placed on a poker table.”

I have a very high regard for Nolan Dalla. Apart from being a friend, I consider him a straight shooter with a lot of integrity. I called him at 11:43 PM about what I was writing in entry #199 and he called me back by 11:53 PM. He told me he sympathized with Singer, considered him a player of utmost integrity and felt it was unfortunate what happened. But he (on behalf of Harrah’s and the World Series of Poker) disagreed with David’s view of the situation and made it clear the ruling of the floor was correct. This was Nolan’s statement to me:

THE QUESTION IS: WHAT WILL HARRAH’S DO ABOUT IT?
At 9:54 PM, it appears the floorman for Table 8 during Day 1-B of the World Series of Poker made a serious error. It cost David Singer his continued participation in the Main Event. Singer, who made the final table of the $50,000 HORSE for the second straight year, is talking about hiring a lawyer, possibly to clear the way to ‘re’-play on Monday.

Sitting in my room at 6 PM, I’m looking at the Pokernews.com coverage of Day 1-A, and some big names are starting to bust. In particular, I notice that both Greg “FBT” Mueller and John D’Agostino have gone out in the last few minutes. I had conversations with them both over the last few days which I hadn’t had the time to post.

Today is the first day of the Main Event. I don’t play until 1-D [more on that in the next entry] and there’s a problem with that which I had not anticipated: if there’s tournament going on, I want to be dealt some cards. So I’m wandering.

[I'm interrupting my story of the first two days of the SHOE because Anthony Holden brought to my attention that Eric "Rizen" Lynch mentioned me in his blog on CardPlayer.com. I was so amused by the whole thing that I had to write this, even though I was working hard on documenting some fun stuff from the SHOE and a bunch of other entries I'm still writing.]

Right before the SHOE, I ate at the noodle kitchen near the sports book. My fortune cookie said, “Versatility is one of your outstanding traits.” I was willing to trust a fortune cookie, but I had second thoughts after arriving in the Goldilocks Pavilion at 5 PM on Sunday. I didn’t see one face I recognized, and couldn’t decide if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

I finished seventh in the SHOE yesterday. I was, again, thrilled at making the final table and, again, disappointed not to have lasted longer. Although a bunch is going to happen between now and when I play on Monday – last night’s Lederer-Zolotow-Full Tilt party, tonight’s birthday party for Phil Gordon, Annie and Don Cheadle’s Ante Up for Africa tournament tomorrow, and Days 1A, 1B, and 1C – I’ll try to catch up, starting with my experiences during the first two days of the SHOE.

It’s now Tuesday, July 3, 1:45 PM. I am playing the final table of the SHOE in 75 minutes. Because of the bizarro playing schedule (3 PM-3 AM the last couple days), I’ve taken a bunch of notes but haven’t been able to write anything. This is my last playing appearance – PROMISE! – until I play the Main Event on Monday so I should have time to catch up.

I just finished the STRATEGY GUIDE tournament on Full Tilt (actually, quite awhile ago) and wrapped up three hours of a Pro Chat. I answered a couple hundred questions and apologize for not getting to them all. I’ll talk with the Full Tilt honchos (honchoes?) about doing another scheduled chat. I’ve been busy writing and playing – I’ve been posting as much as I can and I’m still about a half-dozen posts behind. Last night I played in another $1060 Mega Satellite for the Main Event. And I play the $1000 SHOE tonight at 5 PM. I just looked at the schedule for what’s going on now … Holy Cow!
