Allen Cunningham has not been heard from much in this game. I don’t even think I heard him talk when Erick Lindgren made fun of him for taking his dog on vacation. (In fairness to Allen, it should be noted that he and Melissa Hayden rented a house in Santa Monica for six weeks. Why keep a dog if you’re going to move residences for six weeks and not bring the dog?)

Chris Ferguson has come to life! At 3:15 PM, as I was making the last post, they played a $70,000 pot. Chris raised to $1,800 and was called by Erick Lindgren and Tony G – I think Erick and Tony were in the blinds. Tony led out with a $4,000 bet after a flop of 9-7-5. Chris called, Erick folded. After a nine on the turn, Tony checked, Chris bet $9,000 and Tony called. Chris bet $20,000 on the river and Tony called. Chris showed A-9 to take it. Tony claimed he had 9-8. I wonder ….

OK, there IS an Andy Bloch golf-betting story making the rounds. In fact, it involves Andy Bloch AND Chris Ferguson on the golf course. They’ve both taken up the game recently, because one of them got an opportunity to get some lessons and they decided to take them together.

Andy Bloch, telling stories about men having sex behind his hotel? Andy Bloch, betting the props? Apparently, Andy Bloch in cash games is a lot different than the Andy Bloch I THOUGHT I knew really well from the past two years.
Now, he’s proving to be the Action Man.

It’s about 2:30 PM as I write this. Cards have been in the air for 30 minutes. Because of the complexities of the production and the uniqueness of the game, they’ve played under 10 hands. But there has been some ACTION, and the promise of A LOT MORE.

It’s about 4:10 AM in London. I started researching my version of the final table of the first WSOP-E Main Event when I left my room at 9:15 AM to meet Harrah’s No. 2 at the WSOP, Ty Stewart. As I described in #247, I wanted to follow him the whole day and night and write about it from his perspective, sharing with you all the decisions he has to make and all the circumstances that figure in those decisions.
It was very interesting and I have a lot of material. It probably won’t be until I return to the States on Thursday that I can even get started on it. Monday is a recovery day and a day to handle other business, and prepare for the Million Dollar Cash Game. Tuesday and Wednesday will be devoted to providing real-time coverage of that unique event. But I have to tell you a little.

7:03 PM – Outside an entrance to the Shadow Bar, I see 5 men sitting in intense conversation. I recognize three of them: Jeffrey Pollack, Ty Stewart, and Craig Abrahams (who I just met on Friday; he’s Harrah’s Director of Broadcasting and New Media).
I wonder what they’re talking about? With 13 players left in the Main Event of the first WSOP-Europe, especially because the field has narrowed so quickly in the last 5 hours and they are doing so much for the first time and so much on the fly, it can’t be anything routine.

Late, late, late in the Shadow Bar last week, when Jennifer Harman and Thomas Bihl were heads-up, I found myself standing with Gary Thompson and a charming woman named Stacie. She was obviously connected with the tournament somehow, or she was some awesome kind of poker junkie because she was hanging around the tournament on a Sunday at 3:15 AM. She was, however, debating whether to stay to the end.

Walking along the upper level of The Empire, I see from the video monitor that they are on break, with 13 players left. It’s 7 PM and it’s gone FAST today. Just 5 hours ago, there were 32. I want to find out who is still left – most of these players are unfamiliar to me so I want to find out if Annette Obrestad is still playing, because the concept of an 18 year-old female WSOP European Champion is intriguing; Gus Hansen, because he’s with Full Tilt and attracts a lot of attention; and Annie Duke, because she’s my friend.

I am writing this from a café a block away from the Royal Opera House. It’s 6:15 PM on Monday, September 10. In 30 minutes, I’m meeting Tony Holden for the premiere of the new opera season and a new production, Iphigenia en Tauride.
It’s hard to believe I’ve been here a week – that it’s been that short AND that long. As much as I love London, I find two things about it I don’t like – the food and the expense. And I don’t mind the expense very much.
