I’ve mentioned this in passing in a few blogs and I wanted to note it explicitly: I will be traveling to London, where I will be playing in and reporting on the first World Series of Poker Europe. I will also stick around and provide you real-time coverage of the Million Dollar Cash Game on September 18-19. As during the Heads-Up Championship and the Series, when I’m “in the field,” expect to see more frequent posts as I try to let you know all the cool and unusual things happening at this pair of intriguing events.

You know that faux food product, “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter!”? Well, you’ll believe it if you find it’s been unrefrigerated for four days. (Come to think of it, “butter” doesn’t perform much better than its unbelievable substitute under such conditions.)

THE BRINK AND THE SUMMIT

At 6:56 PM, he’s got the perfect Ten Grand hand. He moves all-in with pocket aces on the turn with a board of Qs-5d-2s-6d. His opponent calls with Qd-8d, but the ten of diamonds comes on the river, making a flush. Instead of breaking the $10,000 barrier with the best starting hand in poker, he is nearly a thousand dollars away.

Chris Ferguson began his assault on August 14 on the $10,000 milestone in the $50 + $5 Turbo Satellite into that evening’s FTOPS event, $200 + $16 Omaha EOB. As described in #228 – “Chris Ferguson and the Art of Bankroll Maintenance, Part I,” he won his way into THIS satellite via a super-satellite almost a month earlier, not realizing until the super had started that it was not a cash tournament.
