#259 – FTOPS VI Announced – Further Suffering Awaits

Posted by Michael Craig

Full Tilt announced today that it was running the sixth installment of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series on November 7 to 18. I have carefully calculated that if you take my worst stretch of online poker play but OMITTED my FTOPS results from that period, I would still be a profitable player. Actually, I didn’t calculate that, but it sure FEELS that way.

So why am I excited about the next edition?

My newfound ability to score in satellites? Blind optimism? The feeling that if I’m not hot then I must surely be due? The mention in the announcements that you can find updates during the tournaments on my blog?

I honestly don’t know what explains it. I swear this time, though, that I won’t go hog wild. I’m not going to let Clonie Gowen talk me into playing the $1,000 buy-in event. (In Clonie’s defense, her persuasion consisted of an IM saying, “Are you?” after I asked her if she was playing it.) I think I can manage contain my losses to a mere $2,000 this time.

Here is the schedule, with an asterisk next to the events I’m thinking about playing (times are Eastern):

21:00 WE 11-7 $200 + $16 NLHE – 6 handed

(*) 21:00 TH 11-8 $300 + $22 Razz

21:00 FR 11-9 $200 + $16 PLHE

15:00 SA 11-10 $500 + $35 PLO – 6 handed superstack

16:30 SA 11-10 $100 + $9 NLHE – rebuys

14:00 SU 11-11 $100 + $9 Stud EOB

(*) 18:00 SU 11-11 $300 + $22 NLHE

21:00 MO 11-12 $1,000 + $60 NLHE – superstack

21:00 TU 11-13 $200 + $16 PLOEOB

21:00 WE 11-14 $300 + $22 NLHE – rebuys

(*) 21:00 TH 11-15 $500 + $35 HORSE

(*) 21:00 FR 11-16 $200 + $16 LHE – 6 handed

15:00 SA 11-17 $2,500 + $120 – NLHE – superstack

16:30 SA 11-17 $100 + $9 – PLO – rebuys

(*) 18:00 SU 11-18 $500 + $35 NLHE – superstack (Main Event)

That gives me a max loss of $1,930. I will, however, miss playing the opening event, the 6-handed. Geez I owned that 6-handed NLHE evening tourney for the first four months of the year. It also means I have to skip PLHE, which was my sole cash in FTOPS V. I admit that the Stud EOB would be a lot of fun, and it’s only $100 + $9 more. And I’ve always played the $100-rebuy.

OK, so it’s not set in stone.
