#295 - A Name Fitting a Legend
I’m surprised that people don’t know how Chip Reese got his nickname. They assume it had something to do with his skill at cards. In fact, it was prescience and coincidence on the part of his parents. David Reese received his nickname before he was even born.
“Everybody thinks I got it from poker, but I got it when I was born. My name is David E. Reese III. When my parents were on their honeymoon, they went to a lake in southern Michigan. They were big Ohio State fans; my grandfather was friends with Woody Hayes. The guy who ran the boat docks was a former Ohio State player named Chip. My mom was pregnant with me, they had to give me a nickname, so they nicknamed me Chip.”
The weird part for me is the place where Reese got the nickname is the same place where Andy Beal vacations during the summer.
