#318 – FTOPS VII Contest Announcement! Free Money! “Michael Craig is Giving it Away”
I asked readers for suggestions about how I could cover FTOPS VII and you responded in impressive numbers. For awhile, I failed to grasp that many of you seized on a superb idea because (a) it was the same idea, and (b) it was a not-so-veiled request that I back the correspondent in an FTOPS event.
So you got me. Maybe I’ve finally been softened by the 867,000 requests for five bucks from the rail. (I’ve been ignoring those requests, not even acknowledging the people with a “no” or “drop dead” since the time early last year when I politely explained to someone why I couldn’t give him five bucks and he responded by flooding the room with obnoxious, profane statements and ended by putting a curse on me.) Or maybe the well has just run dry and I’m desperate for something new for FTOPS VII.
I’m going to back you – well, one of you – in the opening event of FTOPS VII, $200 + $16 NLHE, which starts on February 6, 2008 at 21:00 ET.
Here is the deal:
1. Submit your explanation of why I should back you in Event #1 of FTOPS VII. There are no limitations or guidelines but I recommend that explanations be 100 words or less and, because I am fluent in just English, that your explanation be in that language. Whatever reason to choose is inbounds and whatever means you choose to express it is up to you.
2. I will judge the entries on the reasons given and how you express them. My decision is final and without recourse. My intention is to judge this subjective matter in good faith, but if Gavin Smith submits a bar tab from Australia and I pick it, then I’m backing Gavin in Event #1.
3. Send your entries by e-mail, to mrchaotic@aol.com. The entry deadline is 23:59 ET on Sunday, February 3. I will notify the winner by e-mail and announce the result sometime on Monday, February 4 in this space.
4. All entries, e-mails, instant messages, etc. become the property of The Full Tilt Poker Blog by Michael Craig. I have the right to disclose the first name of anyone who enters and the screen name of the winner. I may ask others whose entries I post in the blog if I can mention your screen name. Full names and e-mail addresses will remain confidential with me.
5. I will be posting some entries and am allowed to edit for spelling, grammar, or space. If I edit them for any other reason, I will note that when I post it.
6. The winner will receive a paid entry for Event #1. To receive the prize, you must (a) be eligible to participate in the event; (b) present me with an e-mail address and an Instant Messenger ID at which I can reach you and hear from you before and during the tournament. Part of the deal is that you have to maintain contact with me during the event. I want to write about your experience in the contest, both during the event and immediately after.
After all this time of so many people asking me for money – some just begging, others cloaking it as “a Chris Ferguson-like experiment” – you’re all being punished. You’re going to have to earn your shot at 216 bucks in the most thankless, demeaning way possible.
Yep, you’re gonna have to write to get it.
Buena fortuna.
