Yesterday, Saturday, featured 2 FTOPS events (nos. 6 & 7). The first was $500 + $35 PLO 6-handed. Checking out the start of the tournament, I saw a familiar name atop the leaderboard, Miss Lulu. In February of last year, with the player’s consent, I revealed Lulu’s identity on Lulu’s way to a 4th place finish in the FTOPS Main Event.

I played a WSOP PLO event a couple years ago and, in the minute before it started, bumped into Lulu on the way to our respective tables. Miss Lulu in real life is one of the best and most famous PLO players in the world, so I asked, “What’s the secret to winning this event?” Surprisingly, Lulu shared it: “Ya gotta gamble.”I played a pair of SnG satellites into this event – I’ve played at least a hundred FTOPS satellites (not including the meth lab of satellites, those super turbos in the hour before the events) and done pretty well – but bubbled them both. I don’t play enough PLO to donate a whole buy-in so I saved up my money for the afternoon event, $100 + $9 NLHE-Rebuys.

Miss Lulu was on a roller-coaster for a couple hours, eventually busting about twenty from the money.

The event (and the $68,000-plus that went with it) was won by mmadd, a player I don’t know. I saw several familiar names at the last 3 tables but all the players I knew busted before the final table, including Nordberg (13th), Scott Fischman (12th), and a couple guys I’ve played a zillion tournament hands with online, pfino (11th) and SamENole (8th).
