#407 – FTOPS Notebook – Nah, Beth Shak’s Luck Turned Bad Again
Fifteen minutes after winning as a 99-to-1 underdog, Beth Shak busted from FTOPS #11. With pocket sixes under the gun, she raised to 140. Another player called and the big blind reraised to 590. Shak, starting the hand with about 1,800 chips, called.
The call is a debatable move. It just about commits her to the pot with a hand that almost automatically is going to leave her with a tough decision on the flop. I’m not sure if the right move was folding or moving in, but I think both would have been better than just calling there.
Just to show that I know nothing, she got one of the best flops she could imagine: 5s-4c-3s. Now her sixes are an overpair and she has an open-ended straight draw. She moves all in and is called.
The other player had pocket aces and she didn’t hit any of her outs.
I’m sure the experience wasn’t any fun for Beth but I can tell you this: it wasn’t dull.
