#412 – Full Tilt’s $25,000 Heads-Up World Championship, Coming May 24
Full Tilt has put a really bizarre, interesting, incredible tournament on its schedule. It’s heads-up, no-limit hold ‘em and they had the audacity to call it a “world championship”. Read on.
The buy-in is $25,000, which I figure has to be a record for an online tournament and maybe a record for a heads-up tournament. (The buy-in for the NBC Heads-Up Championship was “only” $20,000.) It’s drawn a lineup including the following red pros: Chris Ferguson, Phil Ivey, Andy Bloch, Erik Seidel, Gus Hansen, Howard Lederer, John Juanda, Brandon Adams, Brian Hastings, Cole South, David Benyamine, David Oppenheim, Huckleberry Seed, Nick Schulman, Peter Jepsen, and Taylor Caby.
There are spots in the field already designated for 4 satellite winners, so if you have trouble parting with 25 dimes, you can sneak in on the cheap. I can tell you with confidence that all these pros will be playing because once you register for this tournament, you can’t unregister.
Compared at least with the NBC tournament, players will get a lot of action for their money. Each player starts with 5,000 chips and blinds will start at just 10-20. Limits go up every 12 minutes, which could mean 20-30 hands at each level. (I think the tournament will take two days to complete.)
I’ll be writing more about this unique event and looking for some way to cover it properly.
