This is shaping up for me like all the FTOPS: a giant hole in my resume as an online player. I figure I’m underwater $15,000 or so, though the actual amount may be less because I’ve had a lot of success gaining satellite entries. What should have been my two best events – NLHE Turbo and HORSE – were both huge disappointments.

Full Tilt has put a really bizarre, interesting, incredible tournament on its schedule. It’s heads-up, no-limit hold ‘em and they had the audacity to call it a “world championship”. Read on.

The process of concluding the contest, awarding the winners, coordinating prizes, and posting the winning entries has been intense and time-consuming. So it’s gonna take a couple days before I put together my report to Full Tilt Poker on the entries as a whole. (Plus my two favorite FTOPS events – $200 + $16 Turbo NLHE and $500 + $35 HORSE are this evening.)
But don’t dispair. I am even now in the process of categorizing, summarizing, describing, and analyzing the entries, and I will post the full report when I’m finished. I appreciate the time and effort all the entrants put into the contest and I want the report to do that effort justice. But justice, like crown rack of lamb, takes time.

Full Tilt allowed me to give a third prize for the contest and I decided to award it to Major General. His entry did not have the detail or imagination of SchaefPerro’s Offbeat Poker Series or the mission-extension of morningjames’s Pro Lobby. But it was the smartest and most logical alteration of operations out of all the entries.

morningjames had the idea of creating a section of the Main Lobby that allows players on the site to find all the red pros. I like this idea a lot because (a) it fits well with Full Tilt’s mission/slogan of “learn, chat, and play with the pros”; (b) it seems like something that could be implemented pretty easily; and (c) it is an advanced and better version of what Full Tilt recently did in automatically putting red pros’ names at the top of tournament registration lists so players could see which pros were going to play.
Here is morningjames’s entry:

This is the winning entry of SchaefPerro, in which he proposes a year-long series of tournaments he called the Offbeat Poker Series. What I like most about his idea – in addition to the fact he obviously put a lot of thought into this – is that it treats a regular tournament as a laboratory for trying out new tournament variations. It may be impossible – virtually or actually – to write software for this many poker variations but the idea of experimenting with poker rules is fun to consider.
[Note: This entry is way too long but I chose not to disqualify it because (a) of its obvious merit, and (b) because the crux of the idea could have been stated - and was stated - in 150 to 200 words.]

Fifteen minutes after winning as a 99-to-1 underdog, Beth Shak busted from FTOPS #11. With pocket sixes under the gun, she raised to 140. Another player called and the big blind reraised to 590. Shak, starting the hand with about 1,800 chips, called.

I had to take a break from evaluating the “You’re Uncle Tilty” submissions to tell you about the rollercoaster Beth Shak is riding in the early going of FTOPS #11, $1,000 + $60 NLHE. (I won a satellite entry but unregistered at the last minute because I realized it would be difficult to finish the contest properly while figuring out a creative way to donate my entry fee. That doesn’t explain why I’m watching Beth Shak play or why I’m in the $65,000 Guarantee – though I expect to bust from that at any moment.)

I’m racing through the avalanche of entries from the “You’re Uncle Tilty” contest. (The title of this post was a statement in support of one of the suggestions, an increase in Razz cash-game options and tournaments.) I’m reading and judging as fast as I can. I believe I can complete the task in the next several hours but if the process takes longer, or the process of the winners getting their entries takes longer, or you don’t find out until the last minute about your entry, I’ll try to arrange it so you can convert the entry to tournament dollars to use for some other tournament.
Thanks for participating and I’ll get the results out ASAP – with my commentary soon to follow.
