#451 – WSOP Notebook #24 – Past as Prologue

Posted by Michael Craig

Today is Wednesday, July 2.

I think.

I do know that I play the Main Event tomorrow and that’s Thursday July 3, so this must be the 2nd. I’m staying away from the Series today – the mounting crowds and excitement, the star-studded Ante Up for Africa tournament, the lavish WSOP parties – to write.

Maybe I’ll gain some perspective that will help me in the Main Event. Maybe I’ll find some nuggets of insight buried in the notebooks I’ve kept the last month. Maybe I’ll entertain and enlighten you. Maybe I’ll keep myself from getting fired by Uncle Tilty for taking his money under false pretenses.

Item 1 [written in my notebooks on June 1 & 3]: My table was so far away from the Amazon Room, that I got moved to Buzio’s, the fish restaurant. When I mentioned this at a table during another event Bill Chen remarked, “So at least you made the final restaurant.”

Item 2 [from the notebooks of June 1 & June 17]:  When I busted from my first tournament - 3-3 with A-3-7 on the flop, 5 seeing the flop, called by 6-6 who hit a 6 on the turn – Perry Friedman was briefly seated to my right. He had just enough time to introduce the concept of “massage insurance”. Pay an additional $2 for 20 minutes and if you bust before the 20 minutes is up, the massage is over, but the part you got is free.

(I pick up that conversation with some additions when Perry is seated to my left during the Stud 8 or Better Championship).

Stay tuned for a lot of Michael Craig on the World Series of Poker.
