#454 – WSOP Notebook #27 – Mixed [Up] Hold ‘Em, Part III – Erick Lindgren is Never Stuck … for Something to Say
[Written June 25, from the notebooks of June 2]
At 1AM my table breaks and I move to Table 4, Seat 4. Erick Lindgren is in Seat 2. Patrik Antonius is in Seat 6. Chau Giang is in Seat 7. Did I mention there was a pretty tough field in this one?
Ted Forrest comes to Erick and says, “Matusow says he’s 179 and he made weight for our bet.” The question was what sort of scale Mike is using and Ted says, “I’ll may have to try out his scale, just to see what it’s like to weigh 155.” Then Forrest and Lindgren argue over Mike’s height. 5’10”? 6’? Somewhere in between? Forrest wants to bet, though Lindgren admits his confidence is based on what Mike told him, and is therefore shaky.
There is a brief hold-up before we start play because the luck of the draw has put father-and-son Barry and Jeff Shulman at the same table. Is that right? Is there a rule about that?
Erick Lindgren says, “They can’t be at the same table. No table should be that lucky.”
A note on Erick Lindgren. He lost almost all his chips with about a half hour to play when an opponent made quads and Lindgren turned a straight. When his opponent turned over his hand, he pounded on the table, which bothered Erick a little. Just before the end of the night, all-in, Erick won a pot from the same player, and pounded the table himself. Still, he was 91st out of 93 players left.
Two days later, he won his first bracelet in this event.
