#495 – London 2008 #2 – Million Pound Challenge – Tip of the Iceberg

Posted by Michael Craig

It’s 12:10 PM and we are just about to commence play at the Million Pound Challenge. There are 80 players at the Hellenic Centre, playing for a chance to win £1 million.

These 80 are the tip of a very big iceberg of European Full Tilt players. There were nearly 21,000 entries into tournaments that brought these 80 players here. This group will play to a final table of 6 by the end of today.

Everyone here has already received £500. The final 6 receive at least £1,000 more – £1,000 for 6th, £2,000 for 5th, etc., until the runner-up receives £5,000.

The winner will receive a minimum of £50,000. The winner will play, in succession, three Full Tilt pros – Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, and Roland de Wolfe. Just for trying, the challenger receives the £50,000. One victory is worth £100,000. Two score £200,000. Beat all three of those pros and the Champion of the Million Pound Challenge receives a cool £1 million.

They will play 30 minute levels, with the first break after 2 hours. The first level is 25-50. I believe they are starting with 5,000 chips apiece – I’m still working that out.
