#509 – London 2008 #16 – Adam Noone Has Won the Million Pound Challenge

Posted by Michael Craig

Adam Noone, after playing his big stack patiently all day, found himself heads-up with Jay Darbar, who started the day with the shortest stack and, not long into their heads-up play, took a substantial lead. But Noone won with some close hands – 6-6 v. A-9 (and then they saw a 6 and an ace on the flop) and A-Q v. K-Q – to retake his lead and ultimately prevail.

On the final hand, he had Q-9 against Darbar’s K-2 and hit nines on both the turn and river. Jay Darbar played with great judgment and poise and simply ran into some tough situations and, on the last hand, bad luck.

Adam will get a break and some coaching from Andy Bloch and Allen Cunningham before taking on three pretty tough heads-up opponents: Phil Ivey, Roland de Wolfe, and Chris Ferguson.

I was told, for production reasons, that I can’t report the results of the heads-up matches. That’s actually not a problem because I came up with a better idea: I’m going to sit in on the coaching session and tell you what that involved.
