#514 – London 2008 #21 – Million Dollar Cash Game – The Diamond Kid
Maybe it’s not “that kind” of game. I’ve got that in my notes at 2:42 PM, about five minutes ago.
Ivey, in position against Hellmuth, bets the flop and turn. Hellmuth checks, calls, and finally folds on the turn.
Everyone looks very comfortable, like the cameras and TV aspect are irrelevant. David Benyamine is munching on a sandwich between hands. I figure Phil Ivey will be asking for a massage any time now.
I see Patrik Antonius is wearing the same watch as last year, a giant Breitling tricked out with diamonds. Phil Ivey occasionally sports a six-figure watch, but it’s always something understated.
I heard that Antonius has won $4 million online. Maybe he can afford a new watch. Of course, maybe such conservative habits away from the table – if wearing one diamond-encrusted watch for a year counts as conservative – is WHY he’s been so successful.
Or maybe it’s just a coincidence that he’s wearing the same watch. Or maybe this one just looks like the old one, but with a lot more diamonds.
