#517 – London 2008 #24 – Million Dollar Cash Game – I, Lamb
The action took some time to heat up last year and, despite the fireworks on the first hand, the same appears to be true this year. During a lull in the action, I offered my services to Uncle Tilty to play in the game. Why, I’m not sure. Maybe, in my heart of hearts, I think I can play with these guys and win some dough, but that’s a pretty vain and unrealistic notion.
Even though I asked Tilty last night how many of Full Tilt’s top 50 tournament players were sitting at the table – among Ivey, de Wolfe, Bloch, Ferguson, and Cunningham, there was just one: me – we both know there’s a vast difference between performing in $20-$200 buy-in online tourneys in your jammies, and matching skills with Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius for six figures in cash.
Of course, as a lamb willingly being thrown to the lions (and de Wolfe), I asked for an edge. I’d put up $20,000 of my own dough – that’s what I currently have on Full Tilt so they know I’m good for it – and Uncle Tilty would put up $180,000.
Maybe, the Sunday Mulligan notwithstanding, he didn’t want to bet that much on my skills, or maybe he didn’t think the pros needed THAT MUCH incentive to play, because he hasn’t told me one way of the other. He did ask me if I had the bankroll to risk $20,000 on this. I responded as a gambler should, asking him if he had the roll to risk $180,000.
If he takes me up on it, however, I’ll get into the game. There will be a good – and maybe excruciatingly expensive – blog in it, I can assure you of that.
I’ll also find out if I can wear a logo for PayLamb, though that could be premature. The service hasn’t started yet and, now that I think of it, doesn’t have a logo.
