#520 – London 2008 #27 – Million Dollar Cash Game – Break News

Posted by Michael Craig

Apparently, the blog has been down for the last hour or two. It’s now 5:45 PM and it looks like it’s back up. Although I wrote this post nearly an hour ago, it’s the first NEW post since I learned we were down.

We took a “ten minute” break at 4:15, which lasted until 4:50. These were the chip counts at the break:

Patrik Antonius – $203k
Eli Elezra – $121k
Gus Hansen – $101k
David Benyamine – $171k
Tom Dwan – $97k
Phil Hellmuth – $113k
Phil Ivey – $135k
Chris Ferguson – $155k

I’m told that Patrik, Tom, and Phil Ivey have bought in for a total of $300,000; everyone else has bought in for just their original $100,000. There is $1.4 million now in play, so the latest buy-ins – I assume one each for Antonius, Ivey, and Dwan – are not reflected. That would mean the approximate P&L, at the 4:30 break, would be as follows:

Patrik – +3
Eli – +21
Gus – +1
David B – +71
Tom – -103
Phil H – +13
Phil I – -65
Chris – +55

… give or take a couple thousand.

The blog is apparently down and I’ve been instructed not to put up new posts. I’m watching for developments in the game as it starts back up, but here are a few notes that I’ve accumulated:

1. Phil Ivey has great taste in watches. My hunch was correct about what he’s wearing now. It’s an Audemars Royal Oak tourbillon, an aficionado’s watch.

2. There was a big hand right before the break. Tom Dwan raised on the button and Chris Ferguson called from the big blind. The flop was 3-8-3. Ferguson check-raised, but Dwan reraised him, a small reraise. Chris called and checked when a deuce came on the turn. Tom also checked the turn. Another eight came on the river and Ferguson checked. Dwan bet and Ferguson raised. Tom folded.

Before Chris’s raise, I put him on an overpair, like nines. When he raised, though, I knew he had to have more than a pair (or, way LESS). I had him on K-8. He told me he had Q-8. That hand accounted for a significant portion of his $55,000 profit thus far. He got called after raising with K-K earlier, but his opponent folded after he bet the flop. Then he raised in two other hands and took down the blinds and antes.
