#535 – London 2008 #42 – Million Dollar Cash Game – Expensive Game

Posted by Michael Craig

The structure of the game is nominally the same as yesterday, but the size of the game is about to sneak up on everyone.

Blinds are $300-$600 with a $100 ante. That means there is $1,700 in the pot before anyone acts. The typical starting raise is $2,000. But almost everyone – even Chris Ferguson (EVEN CHRIS FERGUSON!) – is straddling for $1,200. That puts $2,900 in the pot before action. The starting raise is about $3,000. Sometimes, they are putting in a double-straddle of $1,200 and $2,400. That puts $5,300 in the pot and four of the eight players with money in there.

Oh, and there’s over $2.5 million on the table. And the way it gets into the pot is … slowly. With all those chips, it’s hard to keep someone from seeing a flop with one or even two raises. In a multi-way pot, the pot’s base is big and the chances increase of two players catching something that they want to play.
