#536 – London 2008 #43 – Million Dollar Cash Game – Chinese v. Japanese
They served mountains of sushi on the last break and sandwiches, it appears, from the parts of the fish not deemed suitable for sushi. Mike Matusow and Phil Hellmuth were not in evidence, however, as they stayed behind at the table to play Chinese Poker.
These guys are way hotter to play Chinese than to play the Million Dollar Cash Game. With the production aspects, the delays, the general pace of play – just give them a deck, a dealer, and a place to play Chinese Poker for at least $500 a point.
At 3 PM, everyone was called back to the game. Matusow was starting to deal a hand of Chinese to Hellmuth from a Full Tilt-logo deck. “Can we finish this deal?”
No, a technician said. Everyone is due at the table.
Phil Hellmuth sat back and said, “Kid, we didn’t get rich by following the rules.”
You don’t make friends at the TV studio by not following the rules, but I couldn’t help myself. I started cracking up. Phil seemed pleased.
Then I went into the control booth, we the technician said, “Get Hellmuth to the table! Tell him to get his friggin’ ass to the table!”
TV producers, meet poker players.
