#548 – London 2008 #55 – Million Dollar Cash Game – A Gladiator Enters the Arena
I tell ya, this game has everything! Durrrr playing every hand. Matusow laying down a ridiculous hand. Ivey hypnotizing all the money his way. Hellmuth storming out.
And just when we thought it was almost over and we’d seen all we could see …
… Howard Lederer has taken Seat 6. Dick Radatz has come on in the ninth. Larry Bird has stepped up to the line. Tom Brady has shaken off his injury and returned to the huddle.
And you can insert any sports metaphor you want but it’s a tough situation for him. He’s bought in for $100,000 but he doesn’t have any feel for the flow of the game, the dynamic of the table. And there’s just an hour or so to go so he won’t really get the time. And this is a tough seat, with Ivey, Hansen, and Antonius to his immediate left.
I’m not sure which is worse: Ivey at the absolute top of his game, bulldozing every big pot? Or Hansen and Antonius, both seemingly playing with one hand tied behind their backs, just itching for a situation to unchain the beast? No need to choose which is worse, because Howard just bought $100,000 worth of all of it.
But Howard’s been around a long time, hardly an old man but he’s been in the game longer than anyone at the table. And for a couple decades, he lived and breathed for the next poker hand.
Ted Williams hit a home run in his last at bat, so who knows?
