#550 – London 2008 #57 – Million Dollar Cash Game – The Game isn’t Over

Posted by Michael Craig

They are done playing for the night and have finished the third edition of the Million Dollar Cash Game. But the game’s never over. And not to preach to the choir, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see most of these guys squaring off on Full Tilt within a day. Heck, maybe within an hour.

Phil Ivey won the Million Dollar Cash Game trophy, which is kind of goofy when you think about it. At least it’s a nice trophy this year. Last year, the thing they gave Tony G looked like something purchased in a novelty shop that originally said, “World’s Greatest Grandpa.”

More important, Phil won $536,400. The next biggest winner was Mike Matusow, ahead $130,000. John Juanda picked up $69,000 in the late session. Howard Lederer didn’t hit one out of the park – and I might resent a little bit that I implied it was his last at bat, though I hope Uncle Tilty tells him at some point that he pushed me into writing it in that fashion (though Ted Williams was my idea) – but he made $27,000 for an hour or so of work.

I think everyone else lost. Phil Hellmuth quit $200k loser. Andy Bloch and Chris Ferguson each lost $100k. Gus Hansen, who left $35k winner yesterday, lost that back and another $40k tonight. Tom Dwan made it into the black and played some tough, big hands to end up $54k underwater. (On the other hand, that comes out to a loss of about fifteen cents for every hand he played.) David Benyamine, once the big winner, ended up $120k loser, thanks mostly to Durrrr. Patrik Antonius lost the most, about $170k, but he played while under the weather without a word of complaint and seemed to get no breaks for two days straight. But other players in the game told me his play was excellent. And he comported himself, as always, like a winner.

P.S. – Just as I was about to file this, I heard there’s gonna be a big game of Chinese in Uncle Tilty’s room later tonight.
