So on the hand where Jesus live-straddles, Eli Elezra raises with ace-king. Tom Dwan, with 7-6o, reraises. Again, I’m thinking this is way too much tangling with a former officer of the Israeli Army. But Tom proves that, for a guy who looks like he’s still young enough to get his picture taken when he gets a haircut, he can be pretty tough too.

OK, here’s a hand you will (or would) love seeing on TV. If you use just a tiny bit of imagination, you’ll be able to visualize it as I saw it.
Phil Ivey live-straddled. Everyone folded around to Phil Hellmuth, in the big blind. Hellmuth had 2-2, so he raised. Ivey found out he had Ad-Jh and called.

It’s just before 9 PM here but I wanted to tell you about some of the hands between 8 and 8:30 that give you a real flavor of what’s going on here.
Eli Elezra raised with J-J and Mike Matusow flat-called with A-T. Tom Dwan, in the big blind with 8-5o, tried a squeeze play, reraising.

A few minutes after play started, there was a big hand between Chris Ferguson and David Benyamine. Even though I’m less than 20 feet from the table and there’s a video monitor next to me, I was unable to find out the size of any of the bets and saw just a glimpse of the flop. They showed down their hands but that never made it to my monitor.
Exciting huh?
Don’t worry. I went from the worst seat in the house to the best.

The game is currently on hiatus until 7 PM for a dinner break. A few of the gourmands, Patrik Antonius and David Benyamine, have decided to join action-hungry Mike Matusow in a game of Chinese Poker during the break. That game is going on just over my left shoulder and it’s a shame Chris Ferguson has left the building. It would take all his skills to resolve the discussions after every game over the scores and the multipliers. (They’re playing $500-$2,000 a point and the specifics are behind me … and them too, I think.) [I just heard Matusow in the background say, "You're fuckin' insane. Do I have to send you to fuckin' math school?"]

About a half hour ago, just after 5:00, a member of the production staff whispered to me the following state secret: “Mike Matusow will soon be entering the game.”

Apparently, the blog has been down for the last hour or two. It’s now 5:45 PM and it looks like it’s back up. Although I wrote this post nearly an hour ago, it’s the first NEW post since I learned we were down.
We took a “ten minute” break at 4:15, which lasted until 4:50. These were the chip counts at the break:

With the food coming in a few minutes, we’re starting to see some skills here, some hands, and some balls. At 3:45, Phil Hellmuth and Eli Elezra got into it.

There’s a brief break in play at 3:35 PM. Patrik Antonius, a few minutes ago, privately and very quietly asked the tournament director, Barry Mundee, if he could order a sandwich, which he’d step away from the table for a few hands to eat.
When word leaked out, you’d have thought there was a hobo convention at the railyard.

The action took some time to heat up last year and, despite the fireworks on the first hand, the same appears to be true this year. During a lull in the action, I offered my services to Uncle Tilty to play in the game. Why, I’m not sure. Maybe, in my heart of hearts, I think I can play with these guys and win some dough, but that’s a pretty vain and unrealistic notion.
